Useful Information

Modern medicine is increasingly focusing on the internal reserves of the human body. Every person has stem cells - these cells help the body to regenerate if the skin or organs are damaged. When the body ages or goes through a serious illness, stem cell reserves are exhausted.

Preservation of newborn stem cells offers an opportunity to provide an additional health reserve for the child and its closest relatives.

What is the difference between using umbilical cord blood/tissue and bone marrow stem cells?

Stem cells, which are derived from the umbilical cord blood and tissue are much younger than the similar bone marrow cells, as they are preserved at the very beginning of life and in a state of high biological activity.

In addition, umbilical cord blood cells present a lower risk of rejection than bone marrow and peripheral blood cells, even if they are used by another person.

Therefore umbilical cord blood and tissue are considered to be more effective sources of stem cells.
IVF Biotechnology and Stem Cell Center is the first national stem cell bank in Latvia that provides residents of Latvia with the opportunity of creating a biological insurance for the whole family.
