Stem cell therapies in clinical applications: progress and challenges

iVF Riga Clinic team visited the 34th ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology) Annual Meeting in Barcelona, Spain, from 1 to 4 July 2018. 

Embryologists, stem cell researchers, reproductive genetic researchers, clinicians from many clinics of Europe, Asia and the CIS countries took part in this great event.

On July 1, 16 Precongress Courses were organised by ESHRE's Special Interest Groups on a variety of subjects. One of the most popular and interesting precongress courses was «Stem cell therapies in clinical applications: progress and challenges».

The Course dedicated to stem cell therapies focused on the quality requirements that are necessary for stem cell based applications, the progress of actual treatments for problems releated to the reproductive field and the recent breakthroughs of clinical applications of differentiated cells derived from human pluripotent stem cells.

An interesting report was presented by Dr. Cristina Eguizabal Argaiz from Basque Center for Transfusion and Human Tissues, Spain. She told about HLA typing in clinical applications. Another exciting report described stem cell transplantation for erectile dysfunction and this topic rose an active discussion among experts and course attendees.
